Celtics Reportedly Revisit Interest in Rudy Gobert

The Boston Celtics may once again be exploring ways to reshape their roster.

According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, the Celtics have shown interest in four-time Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert. Fischer noted that Boston previously inquired about Gobert ahead of the February trade deadline and has continued to monitor the situation.

The report surfaced in connection with discussions involving Derrick White and the Minnesota Timberwolves. Gobert’s contract would provide a near-perfect salary match in a potential deal involving White, though there is no indication that Minnesota is actively shopping the veteran center.

Both organizations appear willing to evaluate roster changes as they pursue championship contention. For Minnesota, that means continuing to build around franchise cornerstone Anthony Edwards. Boston, meanwhile, faces significant financial decisions as it navigates the league’s restrictive second-apron salary cap rules.

Gobert remains one of the NBA’s premier defensive anchors, averaging 12.1 points, 10.9 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game during the 2025-26 season while helping Minnesota remain among the league’s top defensive teams.

While discussions appear exploratory at this stage, the report is another indication that Boston could pursue major roster changes this offseason as it looks to remain in the championship picture.
